My coaching expertise comes from my unique background in finance, my university teaching experience and my current position as a licensed marriage and family therapist. My first career was in retail banking where I helped bank clientele with personal finance matters from improving credit to qualifying for mortgages. Later as a financial analyst, I worked to analyze financial statements to see whether clients met qualifications for credit. I often observed that although clients were told the necessary steps to take, they would often come back with some resistance which was due to their mindset or relationship with money. As a professor at the graduate school of psychology, I coach and mentor students who are vying for careers in counseling and psychology. As a mental health professional and money mindset coach, I utilize my skills of active listening and other interventions to work through these money mindset issues which become obstacles in achieving financial peace of mind and freedom. My unique background in finance coupled with my experience as a professor and training as a therapist allows me to help people to get to heart of their money issues which ultimately empowers them to handle their respective financial challenges and live a life of abundance.
I am excited to be a partner with my wife, Carine Keenan, to collaboratively guide individuals, couples, and families in addressing financial mindset issues and to educate and empower them with the ability to plan and manage their financial present and future.Separately, I am also the managing owner of Hillhurst Wealth Management LLC, an independent, fee-only California-registered investment adviser providing comprehensive personal financial planning, investment management, and wealth management services. I have served individuals, couples, families, family offices and institutions throughout my 35-year career. Prior to Hillhurst, I held senior management positions at a large alternative investment management firm, most recently as CFO and have 13 years of experience as CFO at high-net-worth family offices. I am a California Certified Public Accountant receiving my initial public accounting experience at a national accounting firm. Additionally, I am a Certified Financial Planner and a Personal Financial Specialist as designated by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”). I am a member of the California Society of CPAs and the AICPA. My education includes an MBA from the Marshall School at the University of Southern California and a BS in Business Management from the University of LaVerne. Lastly, I am a U.S. Navy veteran.
Keenan Financial Coaching is built on our desire to help others who seek help in managing their finances well and attaining financial peace of mind. In our respective separate careers, we have seen many individuals, couples and families who face a variety of issues regarding money, money management, and money mindset. Finances are stressful for many. Some don’t know where to begin and others don’t understand that there are mindset obstacles which get in the way of carrying out even the best financial plan.
We understand. We’ve been there. As parents of four children, we faced many trials and tribulations ourselves. Even with our financial literacy, we had our share of challenges from purchasing our first home to saving for college. Like many, we faced many hurdles and financial challenges -- we had to acquire a functional money mindset to create and buy into the strategies which ultimately enabled us to meet our goals and vision for the future. Keenan Financial Coaching was created to share those tools and strategies with you. We are passionate about helping others because once you have financial peace of mind, there is nothing better than sharing your success with others.
